She currently teaches future physicians at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. In 2019, she was elected to the Troy City Council, where she also served as Mayor Pro Tem. <h4>I'm running to represent <a href="https://senate.michigan.gov/media/nkxntpks/district-9.webp" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Michigan State Senate District 9</a>, which includes Rochester, Rochester Hills, Troy, Utica, and parts of Oakland Township, Shelby Township, and Sterling Heights.</h4>

Advocacy has been a lifelong commitment for me, and I believe everyone deserves a voice and a champion in government, no matter where they come from, how they worship, or who they support at the ballot box.I was boots on the ground years before I first ran for office and volunteered my time as a Troy City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem. I started off knocking on doors and talking with residents to support the candidates and causes I believed in. My involvement has included serving as a member of Indivisible, a Precinct Delegate, Trustee for the Troy Democratic Club, and Finance Chair for the Oakland County Democratic Party. I have also served on the following boards in Troy: Volunteer Firefighter Incentive Plan, Stage Nature Center, Retiree Healthcare Benefits Plan and Trust, and Employee Retirement System.As a physician, I have remained deeply engaged in health policy and advocacy. I am an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Health Policy and Legislation Committee, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Oakland County Medical Society, and I serve on the board of United Physicians where I help oversee thousands of independent medical practitioners. I also serve on the Local Community Stabilization Authority in Lansing to help local governments cover essential community services like police, fire, and ambulance operations. Just recently, I became a member of the Sterling Heights African American Coalition.My campaign is grassroots—powered by conversations at the doorstep, community engagement, and the support of everyday residents, not special interests. The overwhelming majority of my donors are people from our community and grassroots organizations who believe in our shared future.I invite you to join our campaign.
