Meet Dr. Brooks

Public Servant. Community Leader. Physician.

Dr. Theresa Brooks is a physician who has dedicated her career to healing patients and strengthening communities. As a practicing doctor, small business owner, and elected Troy City Council member, she brings medical expertise, practical problem-solving skills, and proven leadership to public service.

Serving Our Community

As a medical professional, Dr. Brooks understands healthcare challenges from the inside. She will fight to expand access to quality healthcare, address disparities in treatment, and ensure that medical decisions remain between patients and their doctors. She believes healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

Following advanced training at the renowned Mayo Clinic, Dr. Brooks has spent more than fifteen years treating patients, helping them recover from injuries and illnesses that affect movement and daily life.

A Michigan Leader

Dr. Brooks has deep Michigan roots, earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Michigan State University. She currently teaches future physicians at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. In 2019, she was elected to the Troy City Council, where she also served as Mayor Pro Tem. She approaches governing the same way she approaches medicine: listening carefully, relying on facts and evidence, and working toward solutions that improve people's lives.

An Oath to Serve

Throughout her career, Dr. Brooks has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to service. As a physician, she took an oath to help people and do no harm. As a public servant, she brings that same commitment to her work, fighting for policies that protect and strengthen communities. She believes in a government that works for everyone—investing in education, protecting the environment, supporting working families, and expanding opportunity for all.

"From the doctor's office to city council, I've spent years helping those that need it most - now, I'm ready to go to Lansing."

For the past eight years, I have worked to build strong relationships, bring people together, and help address the challenges facing our community. Advocacy has been a lifelong commitment for me, and I believe everyone deserves a voice and a champion in government, no matter where they come from, how they worship, or who they support at the ballot box.

I was boots on the ground years before I first ran for office and volunteered my time as a Troy City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem. I started off knocking on doors and talking with residents to support the candidates and causes I believed in. My involvement has included serving as a member of Indivisible, a Precinct Delegate, Trustee for the Troy Democratic Club, and Finance Chair for the Oakland County Democratic Party. I have also served on the following boards in Troy: Volunteer Firefighter Incentive Plan, Stage Nature Center, Retiree Healthcare Benefits Plan and Trust, and Employee Retirement System.

As a physician, I have remained deeply engaged in health policy and advocacy. I am an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Health Policy and Legislation Committee, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Oakland County Medical Society, and I serve on the board of United Physicians where I help oversee thousands of independent medical practitioners.

I also serve on the Local Community Stabilization Authority in Lansing to help local governments cover essential community services like police, fire, and ambulance operations. Just recently, I became a member of the Sterling Heights African American Coalition.

My campaign is grassroots—powered by conversations at the doorstep, community engagement, and the support of everyday residents, not special interests. The overwhelming majority of my donors are people from our community and grassroots organizations who believe in our shared future.

I invite you to join our campaign. I especially encourage young people to get involved and make their voices heard. For students seeking volunteer hours, I would be honored to earn your support, and I am happy to provide a letter of recommendation! - Theresa
